“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
Most people have an opinion about Jesus. Whether you think Jesus is just a good teacher, he didn’t exist at all, or he is the Son of God, most people can agree that Jesus changed history.
We believe that Jesus doesn’t just change history, but that Jesus changes individuals as well. Jesus came into the world to make a way back to God for each one of us.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, we become his disciples. Everyone is invited. No one is left out. No matter who you are, what you have done, no matter where you were born or what language you speak, Jesus invites you to follow him. To become his disciple.
So how do you actually follow Jesus?
It’s easier than you might think.
This is what Paul writes in the book of Romans:
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
That is it.
Declare with your mouth Jesus is Lord. Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead.
You will be saved.
Your sins are forgiven. Jesus has paid for them. You are now his disciple and in a relationship with God.
As a disciple of Jesus, we begin to change over time. You don’t change to earn God’s love. You change because God first loved you. When you follow Jesus you will follow his teachings. You will imitate his behaviours and attitudes. You will care about what Jesus cares about.
Believing is the first step.
Baptism is something that Christians have been doing for thousands of years. Baptism is an action to symbolise faith in Jesus.
It is a public declaration that you follow Jesus now.
