St. Luke’s Miranda is a Reformed Evangelical Anglican Church. It’s a complicated mouthful of words to define us, but it boils down to some really simple truths. A great place to start is looking at the heartbeat of Christianity explained clearly in the Two Ways to Live video.
We believe that the God of all the Universe has chosen to reveal himself to us through his relationship with the historical Israel, through the prophets, through his word in the Bible, and most importantly through his son Jesus.
As a church we seek to anchor our beliefs in what God has made clear to us from the Bible, and we desire to be a Christ-centred Biblical Church.
The following are several documents that help clarify some of the specific things we hold to as a church.
As an Anglican Church, the 39 articles of religion is a document that lays out the foundation of our denominational beliefs.
The Jerusalem Declaration is a document created by the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans at GAFCON (Global Anglican Future Conference). It is a helpful reference point for understanding what we mean when we call ourselves “Reformed”.
The Nicene Creed (below) is a clear and concise summary of basic Christian beliefs. It doesn’t summarise all of what Christianity is about, but since 325AD, it has served as a clear statement about God, his nature and character.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
